Portfolio 18.2 - Walls of different kinds

For many years, we have been participants in great political problems, such as the walls-constructing between neighboring countries. On the one hand, we believed that these problems were going to be solved by the different Governs, but on the other hand, they have worsened. The different migratory waves due to famines, wars, pandemics, among other human catastrophes, have caused a great migratory wave from one country to another. With many cultural, racial, political and religious differences, these issues have not been enough to stop the humanitarian crisis and the construction of walls in many parts of the world. In any case, they have been complicating them even more.
Erecting barriers not only involves establishing a physical wall but also a cultural one. Most of the people who were undocumented belong to minorities and refugees from other countries. Apart from being difficult for an immigrant to set on a new country, it also implies to face off discrimination. Many people from these little ethnic groups have sustained that at least once in life, they suffered from discrimination in the field of working and health. I think that the government has to establish more policies as a way of protecting minorities and punish those who promote differentiation to protect these little groups.
The acceptance, education and constant reculturalization to which many immigrants are subjected, make the acceptance process quite lengthy in terms of non-discrimination. Such is the case of sub-Saharan African people, who travel thousands of kilometers from Mali or Angola to arrive in Morocco and then cross the wire fences into Spanish territory. In turn, it generates among the Spaniards many 'barriers' which are reflected in a threat to their health, education, and access to work by newcomers. On the one hand, many focus that resistance through new political movements such as 'Vox', where they funnel their hatred. On the other hand, these political parties register and assume old feelings, emerging in new forms of cultural walls.
Building a wall implies to spend a huge amount of money, which can be redirected to other possible benefits. I think that the government should be in charge of those people who are reported because they now belong to their country. As a possible way of solving their current situations, politicians could create more organizations or entities to help immigrants with their legal documents. Specialists confirmed that reported people do not know the requirements which are needed to stay in a country. Definitively, these institutions will be helpful for immigrants who do not know how to cope with the situation and also to the government, which could solve it without wasting a lot of money in the process.

Doris Lessing - A Woman on a Roof

Doris Lessing  A woman on a roof The story is about a woman sunbathing on the roof of a building that is being refurbished by three construction workers. When the men notice the nude woman, whistling and hollering to draw her attention, she resists their advances, silently ignoring them. When the youngest of the men approaches to make the woman’s acquaintance, his advances are abruptly dismissed as the weather turns. Thematically, the story explores feminism, the male gaze, romantic fantasy, sexual desire, and resisting intimidation.  Narrated from the omniscient third-person perspective, the story begins in London during a June heatwave. Three men are repairing the roof of an apartment building: Harry, a forty-five-year-old man; Stanley, a good-looking man of about thirty; and Tom, a seventeen-year-old newbie. As the sun bakes down, the men notice an unnamed woman sunning herself in the nude on the adjacent roof about 50 yards away. The woman has black hair and fair skin.
